Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
In a few hours, year 2012 shall become part of history. It shall be remembered for a number of events. While some shall recall 2012 as the beginning of the "Year of Faith" on October 11, 2012, others shall recall the allegations related to the end of the world on December 21 st, which never came to pass.
While some shall remember the scandal related to the Pope's butler, others shall recall Pope Benedict XVI sending his first Twitter message.
At the family level, some will remember a new birth, the baptism of a newborn, the confirmation of a teenager, the marriage of an older child and possibly the departure of a loved soul. All of these events will leave a spiritual mark on each and every believer.
For some, 2012 was a year of blessings; for others it was a year of hardship, poverty, illness, loneliness, civil war, religious persecution, and the list goes on. Each and everyone of us must bear a cross at one time or another during our lifetime. Through prayer and the Sacraments, by the grace of God, we are able to persist in our spiritual journey towards the Kingdom of God. We must not despair. Our faith is our strength. Without our faith, we will fall away from the grace of God.
With the closing of 2012, let us say a prayer for our Catholic brothers and sister, that 2013 shall be a year of spiritual blessings for all of us. Through the motherly watch of the Blessed Virgin Mary, We need the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Let us draw closer to the Holy Trinity through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
May God's blessings descend upon you all in this New Year.
