Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Less than a week ago, we entered the Season of Lent. Lent belongs to the Season of Spring when the days are getting longer. That explains why the word "Lent" means "lengthen."
Why does the Catholic Church commemorate the 40 days of Lent that end on Easter Day? The answer comes in many forms. Lent is a time of reflection, a season of confession, a time to look at oneself in the mirror, Spring cleaning time, a time to perform an act of repentance, to sacrifice something, to fast, to rededicate our lives to the spiritual journey, to practice devotions such as the Way of the Cross, a time of prayer, a time of almsgiving, etc...
No matter our personal interpretation of Lent, the fact remains that it is a time to prepare ourselves to celebrate Easter in memory of the glorious Resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
This year, let us encourage one another to observe Lent in order to gain spiritual growth in our christian lives. Let us pray for one another, especially for those who do not observe Lent, that the Holy Spirit may kindle their hearts.
May the Lord Jesus bless you all during your spiritual journey.
In the love of the two Hearts,
Jonn,
