Dear members of the Body of Christ,
Greetings from the Catholic Doors Ministry. During the past month, the world has been troubled by the escalating war in the Middle East. More nations, where the extremist moslems dwell, have been calling for a jihad (a religious war between Islam and Christianity). Extreme violence continues to expand throughout the world. During this turmoil, Pope Benedict XVI requested that the faithful of the universal Church pray for peace on July 23, 2006. Where is all of this leading to?
Why is all of this happening? It is because Catholics have become indifferent to their faith. They have failed to obey the command of their Bishops when they received the Sacrament of Confirmation. At that time, they were sent forth to "defend and preach" the Catholic faith. How many nowadays actually live by this command? If we can find a handful of Catholics in each parish who defend and preach the faith, then those parishes have received a small blessing from God.
Statistics have revealed that more and more nations are becoming pagan, its people abandoning Christianity and turning to the worldly ways, fame, pleasures and wealth. At the same time, Islam is on the rise, having taken over the government of many nations during the past 30 years. Those nations then annul their national laws, embracing Islam as the authority of their land.
If every Catholic made an effort to spread and defend his/her faith, a religion of peace, the world would not be in its present state. Many leave the Catholic faith because they are ignorant of the teachings of the true and only apostolic Church. The theme of the 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, on September 3, 2006, is "Be doers of the Word." By our actions and words, we can lead many to the Lord Jesus. Why should we? Because God's eternal promise is that, "Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who save souls, like the stars forever and ever." [Dan. 12:4]
May the grace of God continue to shine on all of you during the remaining of the Summer holidays.
In the two Hearts,
Jonn,
webmaster.
