Lent is a special time to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance. This season of preparation for Easter owes its origin to a great extent to the practice of celebrating this sacrament as part of the preparation. As we realize more deeply the goodness of God, we also become more aware of the ways we have failed to live as we should and become more aware of ways of improving the way we live a Gospel and Christ centered life. The prayers and practices of this season helps us call to mind our sins and assure us of God's forgiveness. The proclamation of God's mercy opens the door to an admission of sin; the promise of reconciliation brings hope to troubled hearts.
