Sacred Heart of Jesus

WHAT TO EXPECT AT A SUNDAY LATIN MASS.

(This is based on my personal experience.)

Note: The Holy Mass is a time to worship Jesus, not a time to socialize in the House of God.

• When you enter the Church, there is no one at the door to force a hand shake or hug upon you.

• There is a Tabernacle in the Church, in the front center, where Jesus belongs.

• Above the Altar, there is Christ crucified, not a plain cross or a resurrected Christ that looks like a nun.

• You will never hear an adult or child talking in the Church. You can pray in peace.

• The Sacrament of Confession is available before Masses. Be prepared for line-ups.

• Those who arrive before Mass, they participate in the recitation of the Holy Rosary.

• When the faithful enter the Church, they bless themselves with Holy Water, including the toddlers.

• Before entering the pews, everyone, including the toddlers, kneel while facing the Tabernacle and make the sign of the cross.

• There are no children running in the Church.

• The priest preaches at the pulpit. (No walking around.)

• You will see Altar boys, no Altar girls.

• The Epistle and the Gospel are read by the priest, no one else.

• The language of the Holy Mass is Latin, the language of the angels, according to 2,000 years of tradition in the Catholic Church.

• The only musical instrument allowed is the Organ, a pipe organ whenever available, such being the music of the angels.

• The Holy Mass is a Christian ceremony in which all members of the family, including babies, are invited to attend.

• When you go to receive Holy Communion, there is no one to herd you up front.

• There is no disliked hand shake during the Holy Mass.

• Holy Communion is received on your knees and on your tongue. (There is no choice in the matter.)

• At Communion, the faithful place their hands under the Communion cloth that covers the Altar railing.

• The Priest is the only one allowed to distribute Holy Communion.

• When you return to your pew after Communion, you should be praying on your knees.

• You can expect the Sunday High Mass to last over one hour.

• At the end of the Holy Mass you can expect that the priest will say the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.

• Throughout the Holy Mass, you will observe total reverence.
