A. 1. The Americanism heresy has been around for nearly 150 years
in the Americas.
Americanism is a group of related heresies that endorse:
- the freedom of the press,
- liberalism,
- individualism,
- separation of church and state,
- an insistence upon individual initiative, which could be incompatible with the principle of
Catholicism of obedience to authority.
This heresy was condemned by Pope Leo XIII in his letter Testem Benevolentiae Nostrae in 1899.
