Q. 1. How does the Catholic Church define idolatry? Is it not the worshipping of idols such as status?
A. 1. The Catholic Church defines idolatry as giving divine worship to anyone or anything that is not the true God.
Idolatry is not limited to the worshipping of idols. When fame, wealth, pleasure or power become more important than God's existence in one's life, then it can be said that the individual is worshipping a worldly god. The same applies to addictions of bingo, lotteries, drug and alcohol abuse, and the list goes on.
