Q. 1. I have two questions. First of all, how many Mass stipends can a priest accept per day? Secondly, if he cannot accept more than one, can he accept a donation for his travelling expenses related to the second Mass?
A. 1. As a general rule, the priest is only allowed to accept one Mass stipend per day. Should the local Bishop rule otherwise, then that rule would apply.
On the matter of travelling expenses, the priest can accept a generous donation to go and celebrate a second or third Mass during the same day. We cannot expect the priest to use out-of-pocket money everytime he has to travel a distance to minister to the faithful.
