A. 1. The words the "Bread of Life" has a number of meanings. First of all, food and drinks give life to the physical body. As water sustain life, so does bread. Both, bread and water, give physical life.
Secondly, according to Catholic teachings, as bread and water give physical life, it is necessary to receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, either the bread (Body) and/or the wine (Blood) of Christ in order to have eternal life.
Thirdly, Jesus said, "I am the Bread of Life." [Jn. 6:35] Jesus feeds His people. Without Jesus, there is no life in us. Without the gift of salvation from Jesus, we are eternally lost. The Holy Eucharist if the Real physical Presence of Jesus on earth. The Holy Eucharist is the "Bread of Life." Jesus sanctifies and saves us when we consume the Holy Eucharist, the Bread of Life.
