Q. 1. I am wondering if there is a different kind of incense that the Catholic Church can use to make it easier on those who are allergic to incense.
A. 1. The Church and its priests are aware that some members of the faithful experience a serious physical reaction to incense. As such, every effort is made to use a minimal amount of incense during the liturgy and as far as possible from the those who are present. If it appears that a priest lacks sensitivity over this matter, he should be reminded with kindness that it would be appreciated if he would use less incense during the liturgy.
The Church strives to find an answer to this problem. As of 2013, manufacturers have tried without success to produce a nonallergenic incense with a satisfactory aroma. Hopefully one day, someone will invent an incense that is satisfactory to all.
