A. 1. October 11, 2012, the first day of the "Year of Faith," was the 50 th Anniversary of the opening of Vatican II and also the 20 th Anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During the "Year of Faith," Catholics are asked to study and to reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith.
The Catholic Church felt that there was a need to celebrate a "Year of the Faith" to encourage Catholics to deepen their knowledge of the faith.
