A. 1. The title of "Fathers of the Church" falls into two categories. The are the "Apostolic Fathers" who lived near the end of the first and the beginning of the second century. Then there are the "apologists" from the second century and after.
The "Apostolic Fathers" recorded faithful versions of apostolic teachings. The "apologists" wrote to defend Christianity that was being persecuted for different reasons.
