Q. 1. What does the Catholic Church teach regarding what a widow(er) should do with his/her wedding ring upon the death of the spouse? It does not seem right for a widow to continue to wear her wedding ring when she is no longer bound by the marriage vows.
A. 1. The Catholic Church does not make rules regarding such matters. The widow(er) is free to do as he/she pleases to do. It does not mean because she is wearing her wedding ring that she is implying that her spouse is still living. It is a matter of choice. It may be part of the grieving process. Also, she may wear it because it reminds her of great moments she had with her husband. I believe the widow should be left alone regarding this subject.
