Q. 1. Who is allowed to distribute the ashes on "Ash Wednesday?" Is anyone else other than the priest allowed to do so?

A. 1. The priest can commission one or more lay persons to distribute the ashes on Ash Wednesday to those who are homebound.

Those ashes must be blessed by the priest during Holy Mass or outside of Mass by a deacon.
