Q. 1. Are Catholics allowed to use the NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) Bible? I hear contradictions regarding this matter.
A. 1. The NRSV, the New Revised Standard Version, is considered to be the politically correct alteration of the Bible. This version of the Bible has been condemned by the Vatican and Catholics are not permitted to use it. As sad as it is to say, the retailers of this Bible do not tell you that the Vatican has condemned it.
No priest, lector or anyone else, may use the NRSV during any Mass. It has not been approved by Rome for liturgical use. (Canon Law # 826, 838).
