Q. 1. What is the purpose of the Roman Catholic Book of Blessings?
A. 1. The Book of Blessings, also known as the "De Benedictionibus" in Latin was first published in 1987. Its present version was a revision dating back to 1990.
Prior to the publication of the Book of Blessings, its content was part of the second section of the old Roman Ritual, the Benedictionale.
The Book of Blessings contains many blessings, however they are far less florid, or traditional in comparison to those in the Old Roman Ritual. The blessings in the new book follow more the structure of the Mass, with general intercessions, readings, and other features which in the older blessings were not included.
