Q. 1. I was raised as an evangelical. I am converting to the Catholic faith. How do I proceed to get baptized according to Catholic teachings?

A. 1. Having already been baptized, you cannot be baptized a second time. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Orders can only be received once in the lifetime of the believers. (Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1246, 1272, 1280)

"Every person not yet baptized and only such a person is able to be baptized." [CIC, can. 864; cf. CCEO, can. 679] (C.C.C. # 1246)

"Incorporated into Christ by Baptism, the person baptized is configured to Christ. Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible spiritual mark (character) of his belonging to Christ. No sin can erase this mark, even if sin prevents Baptism from bearing the fruits of salvation. [Cf. Rom 8:29; Council of Trent (1547): DS 1609-1619] Given once for all, Baptism cannot be repeated." "Baptism imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual sign, the character, which consecrates the baptized person for Christian worship. Because of the character Baptism cannot be repeated (cf. DS 1609 and DS 1624). (C.C.C. # 1280)

"Every unbaptised person, and only such a person, can be baptised." (Code of Canon Law # 864)
