It is a special time of solitude and silence to engage in adoration or religious exercises. It usually covers a period of a few days and it usually held at a religious house.

Retreats help those who are soul searching, assisting them in finding their purpose in life such as a religious vocation.

Retreats also serve the purpose of spiritual growth, improving one's closeness with God, taking the time to listen and hear God's voice in one's heart.
