Q. 1. Does the Holy Bible provide any proof that Confession is a Sacrament?
A. 1. Yes, it does. In Matthew 16:19, we read, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." In other words, whatever you forgive on earth will be forgiven in heaven and whatever you do not forgive on earth, will not be forgiven in heaven.
This authority, the power to forgive sin, is bestowed upon all the Catholic bishops upon their consecration, they passing it on to the priests that they ordain.
The following are some Biblical references to the Sacrament of Confession:
Matthew 16:19,
John 20:21-23, and
Rev. 1:18.
