Frequently Asked Questions
regarding the meaning of
I.N.R.I.

Q. 1. What does I.N.R.I. mean on crucifixes?

A. 1. I.N.R.I. is shorthand for "Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum." It is Latin for "Jesus the Nazorean, the King of the Jews." The sign on the cross of Jesus was written in three languages: Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. [Jn. 19:19-20]
