Q. 1. What is the Chancery?
A. 1. The Chancery is a branch of the Church administration that handles written documents used in the government of the Church. It is also the administratiave office of a diocese, a bishop's office.
For example, if someone wants to apply for an Annulment or is searching for a Baptismal Certificate associated with a Catholic Church that has now closed, that person should contact the Chancery Office. There he/she will find all the assistance that he/she needs. Or a person could contact their local Pastor who will then contact the Chancery Office on their behalf.
