Frequently Asked Questions
regarding the
ALTAR SERVER CASSOCK.

An Altar server cassock.

Q. 1. What is the purpose of the Altar server cassock?

A. 1. The cassock is part of the Altar server's vestment while serving at the Holy Mass. The Altar server normally wears a a white surplice of the cassock. Although the cassock is a sign of a priest's consecration and dedication, its use during the liturgy is not restricted to clerics.

Not all parishes have their Altar servers wear cassocks. In some parishes, the Altar servers wear an alb and cincture.

While black and white used to be the most common colors for the Altar server cassock, there are now other colors available such as red or brown.
