Q. 1. What is the purpose of the "Holy Water Pot?"
A. 1. In the Catholic Church, holy water is blessed by the priest for the purpose of the Sacrament of Baptism, the blessing of persons, places, and objects, or as a means of repelling evil.
At the beginning of the Holy Mass, the priest blesses the faithful with a sprinkler that he dips in the holy water pot as needed to ensure that the holy water is sprinkled on everyone.
The use of the holy water pot and sprinkler is observed in other Catholic services where blessings are required such as at funerals, the blessings of homes, farm animals, etc...
