Q. 1. What is the alb used for in the Catholic Church?
A. 1. An alb is the white garment (robe) worn by priests, deacons and servers during the Church services. The priests wear it during the Holy Mass. As a large baptismal gown, it reminds those who wear it of their baptism. This long, white linen liturgical vestment may have tapered sleeves. The alb symbolizes the innocence and purity that should adorn the soul of the priest who ascends the altar. While it is white in the Western Church, it can be of any color in the Eastern Church.
