Q. 1. What is a "relative impediment?"
A. 1. A "relative impediment" is a condition that only applies in relation to certain other parties.
While an absolute impediment forbids any marriage of the person on whom the impediment falls, such as impotency, Holy Orders, etc... a relative impediment forbids a marriage with certain definite persons, such consisting of relationship, crime, etc... A good example would be a mixed marriage between a Catholic with a baptized non-Catholic of another religion, such being prohibited.
