A. 1. The purificator is a square white piece of cloth, with a cross in the center, that is used during the Holy Mass. It is used to wipe the chalice clean between each use during the distribution of the Blood of Christ. Purificators are also used at the end of Communion to purify or clean the sacred vessels.
