Q. 1. I noticed during Mass that while there was a number of priests who were concelebrating, it was the Deacon who read the Gospel. Is this acceptable?
A. 1. According to the teachings of the Catholic Church, when a Deacon is present during the celebration of the Holy Mass, he has certain duties to perform. Those duties are to proclaim the Gospel, (he may present the homily), to pray the General Intercessions, to assist in the distribution of the Eucharist, and to carry out other liturgical duties as necessary. Despite the fact that more than one priest was present, it was the rightful duty of the deacon to perform those duties when there is a deacon present at the Mass.
