Q. 1. What is wisdom literature?
A. 1. Five of the Books in the Old Testament are considered "wisdom literature." These are the books of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, and the Wisdom of Solomon." Much of the wisdom is categorized by small sayings such as "And if anyone loves righteousness, her labors are virtues; for she teaches self-control and prudence, justice and courage; nothing in life is more profitable for moratls than these." [Wis. 8:7] "Those who honor their father will have joy in their own children, and when they pray they will be heard." [Sir. 3:5]
In the New Testament, the saying and parables of Jesus are influenced by His great knowledge of wisdom tradition. Accordingly, He is considered the great "Teacher of Wisdom."
