Q. 1. I heard that the Catholic Church has condemned the using of the song "Amazing Grace" in Catholic Churches, especially during the mass. Why is that?
A. 1. First of all, it is not a Catholic song. Secondly, some believe that it is about Mary. Such is not the case.
The song was authored in 1772 by Englishman John Newton, a slave trader, as a response to a powerful conversion experience. After a terrifying storm at sea, Newton realized that it was only by God's grace that he would be saved; these sentiments later becoming the origin of the song.
