Q. 1. What is the meaning of "prevenient grace?"
A. 1. "Prevenient grace" is given to humans without any effort or “earning” on their part. This means that God takes the initiative to save us through Jesus Christ, and that we don’t earn God’s grace. We can only cooperate with it.
"Prevenient grace," a divine grace, precedes human decision. It existed prior to and without reference to anything humans may have done. This grace permits humans to come to Christ in faith but does not guarantee that the sinner will actually do so. Consequently, the enabling grace of God is determined not by God but by man.
"Prevenient grace" is known as the first stirrings of our good will or inclination towards God.
