Frequently Asked Questions
regarding
ACCOUNTABILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS.

Q. 1. Are we responsible for our actions? Since we are victims of the sinful nature, isn't sin responsible for our actions. Many time we do what we do not want to do and we do not do what we want to do. It is as if the sinful nature is controlling us.

A. 1. According to the Catechism of the catholic Church, man is truly responsible for his actions because God gave him an intellect and free will, we he is to use to fulfill the purpose for which he was created.

"God created man a rational being, conferring on him the dignity of a person who can initiate and control his own actions. "God willed that man should be 'left in the hand of his own counsel,' so that he might of his own accord seek his Creator and freely attain his full and blessed perfection by cleaving to him."

Man is rational and therefore like God; he is created with free will and is master over his acts.
" [C.C.C. # 1730]

As it states in Ezekiel 18:20, "The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them."
