Q. 1. Is there a relationship between the conscience and prayer?

A. 1. Yes, there is. Prayer enlightens and strengthens the conscience, giving it the direction of God's Word. At all time, we need to examine our intentions and actions in the light of prayer. The grace of the Holy Spirit helps us to recognize and choose what is God's will.

On this matter, the Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

"In the formation of conscience the Word of God is the light for our path, we must assimilate it in faith and prayer and put it into practice. We must also examine our conscience before the Lord's Cross. We are assisted by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, aided by the witness or advice of others and guided by the authoritative teaching of the Church." [C.C.C. # 1785]
